About the event
https://www.nvartscouncil.org/event/living-in-the-dessert/2024-06-18/ Using the common misspellings of desert and dessert, we’ve put together an exhibition that fuses our arid environment with the indulgent treats that most enjoy eating — especially the cold variety during months like these! The artists selected portrayed this fusion in creative and innovative ways using a wide array of mediums. You will see work that either brings the desert into the denseness of desserts or desserts into the dreamscape of the desert! This exhibition is juried by Las Vegas native, Brian “Paco” Álvarez. He is an entrepreneur, anthropologist, and CEO of Psionic Art Works. He holds a master’s degree in urban leadership from the School of Public Policy and Leadership at UNLV and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology. His lifelong passion for the arts and urban culture has been the driving force behind his career, but most importantly realizes that his passion is what drives Las Vegas' dynamic economy. During his career, Paco has worked as the collections manager of the Liberace Museum, interim curator of the Neon Museum, curator of the Las Vegas News Bureau Photo and Film Archives, and as the art curator at Zappos.com. He has also completed projects as far away as London, England, Anchorage, Alaska and Washington DC.
